How to fit edge protectors on furniture without stretching them
You have chosen an edge protector for your furniture but worry it will come off or that fitting is complicated? A few minutes of preparation help you work calmly. This guide complements your kit’s instructions, which remain the reference for adhesive, surfaces and timing.
Before you start: look and measure
Identify the edges your child can reach and measure the stretch to cover. Lay the roll against it without sticking it to see how it follows the profile. If the furniture has a delicate or uneven finish, check the compatibility stated in the instructions and consider a test in a hidden area.
Prepare a clean, dry surface
Dust, moisture or cleaner residue can get in the way of adhesion. Clean with a product suitable for the furniture and let it dry completely. Avoid harsh solvents and do not apply on a surface that is still damp.
Fit the roll without pulling it
Apply the adhesive as instructed and guide the protector along the edge a little at a time. Do not stretch the material to cover a longer distance: tension can encourage it to lift. Press as the instructions say and respect the stated waiting time before use.
Corners and long edges
On long edges work in sections and make sure joins leave no gaps. For corners, corner guards go on as instructed: press firmly on both sides. If you need to shorten a cut-to-fit roll, like the one in the 2 metre kit, measure first and cut afterwards.
Keep checking after fitting
Check corners and joins from time to time. If a protector loosens, do not leave loose pieces within the child’s reach and refit it following the instructions. If it keeps coming off, read what to check. Baby-proofing is made of small checks: protectors are a help, alongside an adult’s presence.
Protectors help soften bumps against edges and corners. They do not remove every risk and do not replace adult supervision.
